Choosing the Right Worktop for Your Kitchen Renovation

Whether you are undertaking a full renovation of your kitchen or simply looking to make a few changes to modernise the room, one of the most important elements is the worktop.  Choosing the right worktop means you get a high quality finish, a coordinating product that fits in with the rest of the décor and a very practical part of the kitchen that withstands daily use.

Types of worktop

There are various options for materials to use in your worktop depending on what you like and what fits in with the room.  Options such as stainless steel and hardwood are available but do have issues over time while granite is an excellent option but can be very expensive.  For most people, the top choice is a high quality laminate such as the Bushboard Omega range.

Bushboard are a company known for producing high quality work surfaces and is at the cutting edge of smart material technology as well as advanced manufacturing processes.  Their Omega line of worktops was created from this combination of traditional and modern approaches and is a wide selection of laminate worktops that can match with every décor and also work with most everyone’s budget.

Choosing a worktop

When you look at the range of Bushboard worktops, it can be hard to select just one.  All of the styles incorporate their Sanitized Actifrech anti-bacterial technology to ensure that worktops remain safe and untainted by bacteria that can otherwise lead to food poisoning and other problems.

The first decision is what kind of look you want from your worktop.  The range includes laminates that have the appearance of granite, stone or even wood grain.  The quartz collection includes a high gloss finish that ties in well with high gloss kitchen cupboard doors and has a touch of sparkle to it.  The wood grains collection looks like real wood and even has a feel of real wood but doesn’t mark or scar as real wood can.  And the Pebblestone range has the look and feel of washed stone.

The Omega range also includes two profiles to match up with the units in your kitche.  The Q3 range has a profile radius of 3mm and comes in various lengths including 3mtr and 4mtr as well as breakfast bar widths of 665mm and 900mm.  The Q10 has a bullnosed 10mm radius and is available in the Strass Blanc and Strass Noir decors.

Splashbacks and Upstands

Once you have chosen the style and size of the Bushboard worktop you need then it is time to look at the finishing touches – splashbacks.  The Bushboard Omega range offers a variety of different colours and styles in splashbacks to complement the room.  These work to protect walls and make washing down after use very easy and hygienic.

The difference between Splashbacks and Upstands depends how much of the wall behind the worktop that you require to be covered and if you are painting or tiling.  The 8mm splashback forms a protective barrier around the place where the wall meets the worktop it is available in two sizes; midway, which has a width of 600mm fitting between the worktop and the wall units and the 1200mm hob panel splashback, giving a deeper width for behind the hob area.  The 20mm thick upstand is ideal to fill the gap between the worktop and the walls if the walls are to be painted, ensuring an easy to clean, smart area is created.
